There are numerous applications of composite materials in the defence industry. These materials utilising reinforcements like carbon, glass or aramids are now being more widely accepted as replacement materials for more traditional products. Composite materials are strong, lightweight and offer design freedom enabling almost any shape to be manufactured. At the same time they provide controlled tailored properties and relatively low tooling costs. Typical end-uses are radomes, personal protection, body armour, ballistic applications and amphibious craft.
